
Danggit is a well known “Buwad” or dried fish in the Cebu province. There are 2 types of dried danggit: the salted variety and marinated one. The salted one is cheaper and tastes like any typical dried fish. The marinated is the popular one and expensive also. It is marinated first in brine with garlic and left under the sun to dry. The best place to buy affordable Cebu danggit is in Tabo-an Market, it is the drop point of the produce coming from Bantayan Island. Most stores in the market uses airtight plastic bags for your danggit, so that the scent of the buwad won’t escape and won’t cause you any hassle especially when checking in your bag at the airport. The price of the dried danggit usually differ from one season to another. The best time to buy is during the dry months of January to May. In this season, you can buy a kilo around 380-400 pesos. Dried Danggit soars up come the rainy months of August to December. Expect to buy fried danggit at 500-600 pesos a kilo during this season.
